BATON ROUGE, La. Reggie Lewis Jersey . -- Florida coach Jim McElwain watched his Gators overcome injuries, an extra road game and repeated adversity in the shadow of their own goal line. That should be valuable experience for a feisty football team thatll face long odds again when it meets top-ranked Alabama in the Southeastern Conference championship game in a couple weeks.Floridas defense stuffed LSUs Derrius Guice on a do-or-die run from the 1-yard line in the final seconds, and the No. 23 Gators held on for a 16-10 victory that clinched the SEC East Division on Saturday.I cant tell you how proud I am of our players and our staff, and Im happy for our Gator fans who dont think were very good, but all we do is end up back in Atlanta, said McElwain, whose Gators (8-2, 6-2 SEC) also won the SEC East last year. The final play capped a defensive struggle in which No. 16 LSU converted a fourth-and-10 play on its final drive, only to get stopped on back-to-back runs from the 1 to end the game. Fullback J.D. Moore came up short on third down.Florida quarterback Austin Appleby completed only seven passes on 17 attempts, but one of his connections went for a pivotal 98-yard touchdown to Tyrie Cleveland. Eddy Piniero scored the rest of Floridas points on field goals of 36, 24 and 34 yards.LSU (6-4, 4-3 SEC) controlled most of the game and held statistical advantages, outgaining Florida 423 yards to 270 and holding possession for 34:02. LSU also led 7-0 after Guices early 1-yard touchdown. But on three occasions, the Tigers failed to score after driving inside Floridas 10 -- the first time because of Guices fumble in the first half and the second time because of a botched field goal in the third quarter. LSUs lone field goal came three failed plays after the Tigers had a first-and-goal from the 4.We just shot ourselves in the foot. We had a lot of opportunities, said LSU interim coach Ed Orgeron, whose prospects of keeping the job long term werent helped by the result.Had the Tigers, who came in as two-touchdown favorites, converted a few more of those opportunities, theyd still be in good shape to get the SECs Sugar Bowl bid.Not anymore.THE TAKEAWAYFlorida: Missing a handful of starters, the Gators played with a lot of heart and relied heavily on their elite defense to pull off the upset.LSU: The Tigers two turnovers and botched field goal turned what could have been a fairly comfortable victory into a losing struggle.TOUGH DAYLSU starting defensive back Donte Jackson was in coverage on Applebys long scoring pass down the right sideline to Cleveland, who then escaped Jacksons grasp after the catch near midfield. After LSU went down 13-10 in the fourth quarter, Jackson fumbled a kickoff return by running into his own teammate, setting up Floridas final field goal.INJURIESLSU lost a key defender in the first half when middle linebacker Kendell Beckwith needed help off the field. He spent the rest of the game on the sideline with his left knee heavily wrapped. LSU star running back Leonard Fournette, who played despite being banged up last week, came out of the game for good after being stopped short on a third-and-goal play in the second half.POLL IMPLICATIONSFlorida is likely to climb back into the Top 20. LSU might not fall out of the poll , but will be punished for its squandered opportunities.UP NEXTFlorida: The Gators renew their non-conference rivalry with Florida State in Tallahassee.LSU: The Tigers visit Texas A&M on Thanksgiving night. ANN ARBOR, Mich. Cheap Womens Cavaliers Jerseys . -- The Game is set up to be a gem .No. 2 Ohio State (10-1, 7-1 Big Ten, No. 2 CFP) hosts rival and third-ranked Michigan (10-1, 7-1, No. 3 CFP) on Saturday with a lot on the line , and it could join a long list of memorable games in the storied series.Heres a look back, in chronological order, at some of the top games in one of the greatest rivalries in sports, according to AP Sports Writer Larry Lage.Lages first memory of The Game was in 1981 when Art Schlichter lifted the unranked Buckeyes to a 14-9 win over seventh-ranked Michigan with a touchdown near his fathers seats in Section 19. Lages first game story as a journalist covering the series came in 1995 when Tim Biakabutuka ran for 313 yards to help No. 18 Michigan beat No. 2 Ohio State 31-23. Lage has covered one Michigan road game in the series, a decade ago, and all the matchups at The Big House since 2001. The 43-year-old Lage played football across the street from Michigan Stadium at Ann Arbor Pioneer High School and one of his teammates was Mike Lantry, whose father was a central figure in The Games 10-10 tie in 1973.1950In what is remembered as the Snow Bowl, the unranked Wolverines beat No. 8 Ohio State 9-3 as the temperature hovered around 10 degrees with winds reaching nearly 30 mph and the white stuff making it tough to see or play. Ohio State fired coach Wes Fesler with an 0-3-1 record against the Wolverines. The Buckeyes ended up hiring Woody Hayes, a young coach from Miami (Ohio), to take his place.1969In Bo Schembechlers first game against Hayes , his mentor, No. 12 Michigan beat the top-ranked Buckeyes 24-12 at home. Hayes lamented the loss, saying the Schembechler-led Wolverines beat the best team he ever had. The game was the start of what became known as the Ten Year War, with Bo beating Woody five times, losing four games and finishing one famously tied.1973No. 1 Ohio State and No. 4 Michigan, both undefeated, battled in an instant classic to a 10-10 tie with enough drama to be the subject of a documentary, Tiebreaker . The Wolverines got the better of play, but kicker Mike Lantry missed two field goals in the last 2 minutes. Big Ten athletic directors chose the Buckeyes, not Michigan -- perhaps because quarterback Dennis Franklin got injured to represent the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl at a time when the conference would only allow one team to be in a bowl. The Big Ten would later decide to allow more than one school to participate in the postseason.1987Ohio State fired coach Earle Bruce just days before The Game after a three-game losing streak dropped his team to 5-4-1. The unranked Buckeyes, wearing white headbands with Bruces name written on them, beat the unranked Wolverines 23-20 to drop them to 7-4. Bruce was 81-26-1 overall, including 5-4 against Michigan, but Ohio State let him go and brought John Cooper to campus in a move many Buckeyes would lament because he went 2-10-1 in The Game.1991The Game wasnt close that year as No. 4 Michigan routed No. 18 Ohio State 31-3, but it produced a favorite memory for fans north of the state line and a nightmare for those to the south. Desmond Howard, who hailed from Ohio, returned a punt 93 yards for a touchdown and famously struck a pose from the Heisman Trophy statue he later won.1997Like Howard, Charles Woodson crossed the border from Ohio to play for the Wolverines and ended up winning a Heisman Trophy in part because of a signature moment in The Game. Woodson returned a punt 78 yards for a score, sprinting up the same sideline -- Ohio States -- and into the same end zone that Howard did to help No. 1 Michigan beat No. 4 Ohio State 20-14 en route to a national championship.2002Maurice Clarett, playing in The Game for the only time, helped No. 2 Ohio State get past the 12th-ranked Wolverines 14-9 on the way to a national championship. On the final play, Will Allen sealed the victory for the Buckeyes by intercepting John Navarres pass just in front of the goal line. It was one of many victories in the rivalry for Ohio State coach Jim Tressel , who was 9-1 against the Wolverines before resigning in 2011 amid NCAA violations from a tattoo-parlor scandal.2003In the 100th game in the series, No. 5 Michigan beat No. 4 Ohio State 35-21 at the end of a dominant run that seems like a distant memory. The Wolverines were 18-9-1 from 1976-2003 under Schembechler, Gary Moeller and Lloyd Carr. Since Carr retired, Rich Rodriguez (0-3), Brady Hoke (1-3) and Jim Harbaugh (0-1) have combined to go 1-7 against the Buckeyes . Michigan leads 58-48-6 in part because college footballs winningest program started 13-0-2 in a series that dates to 1897.2006A day after Schembechler died, The Game featured the top-ranked teams in the country. No. 1 Ohio State beat No. 2 Michigan 42-39, building a 28-14 halftime lead and holding off the Wolverines after they pulled within four points twice in the second half. Ohio State pushed its lead back to 11 with 5:38 remaining in an entertaining contest that wasnt quite as close as the final score.2013No. 3 Ohio State held off the unranked Wolverines 42-41 when Tyvis Powell intercepted Devin Gardners 2-point conversion pass with 32 seconds left after Hoke, an Ohioan, chose to go for the win instead of taking his chances in overtime. Hoke disliked Ohio State so much he wouldnt say State when mentioning the school and couldnt recall wearing red.---More AP college football: and Larry Lage on Twitter at Kyrie Irving Jersey . Whisenhunt said he hit it off quickly with Ruston Webster when interviewing for the job Friday night. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Brad Keselowski had his confidence shaken at Daytona International Speedway more than once.He was a good plate racer, but never could find his way to victory lane at NASCARs most famous track. That changed Saturday night with a dominating performance that gave Team Penske its 100th career Sprint Cup Series victory -- a win that Roger Penske celebrated in victory lane by participating in the traditional champagne spray.More important, it gave Keselowski his long-awaited first win at Daytona.Keselowski led a race-high 115 laps then held off Kyle Busch on a two-lap shootout that sent the race into overtime for one additional lap. It gave him his fifth career Cup win in a restrictor-plate race, but all the others had come at Talladega. He won on the Alabama track most recently in May.I dont care if its not the 500. Its Daytona. This is huge, he said. I love this place. He loved it even when he came up frustratingly short, or not even close at all.Keselowski said his futility at Daytona was a kick in the you-know-what, but he and his No. 2 Ford crew kept chipping away at it even after he had a disappointing run in the season-opening Daytona 500.I got down on myself here, he said. We came down here for the 500 and quite honestly we ran like dog crap, but my team worked on it. I didnt give up on them. I believe in my team and my team believes in me and we went to work and we put together a better car, and it really showed with a great effort from the whole team. Im really proud of everybody.Penske said he was proud to be an American after winning on Fourth of July weekend. To win 100 races with the competition we have in this sport is amazing, said Penske. Sixteen years ago we won our 100th race on the IndyCar side, it took us some time to catch up over here. Pretty important night for us.The race was marred by a 22-car accident that collected more than half the field and thinned the competition for Keselowski. It really only left Kyle Busch as a legitimate contender, but a restart for a two-lap shootout that sent it into overtime forced Keselowski to earn the win.He easily held off Busch, and challenger Kurt Busch was eliminated when he was knocked out of line by Joey Logano as they headed to the checkered flag.I dont remember a whole lot. It gets kind of crazy, said Kyle Busch, who crashed his primary car Friday morning and raced in a backup. You just tried to play it as safe as you could but as smart as you could, and being as aggressive as you could without trying to tear up any cars. If we could have got the 2 car out of there, it probably would have been a decent race, but that thing was just so strong that there wasnt much passing him.Really it took a lot of guys ganging up and getting together in order to make a move on him. He was pretty smart about where he positioned his car on the racetrack, and I could see that, and I tried to do some of those same things, but man, it just never really worked for me as good as he could handle it.Trevor Bayne finished third and was followed by Keselowski teammate Logano and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Cleveland Cavaliers Jerseys Online. as Ford drivers took four of the top five spots.Keselowski credited a push from his teammate for helping him shake the Busch brothers on the final restart.I was able to get Brad a good push to clear and get a Penske car to victory lane, which is really cool, Logano said. The 2 was the fastest car and he deserved to win the race.It was a plan to work together and disrupt the Toyota contingent that used teamwork to dominate the Daytona 500. Instead, Kyle Busch was the only Toyota driver to finish inside the top 10.Kyle Larson was sixth and the highest finishing Chevrolet. He was followed by Austin Dillon, who ended last years race in an airborne accident, then pole-sitter Greg Biffle and Clint Bowyer.Michael McDowell was 10th.Tony Stewart, seeking his fifth victory in his final race at Daytona, was in contention until a late accident. He finished 26th.Dale Earnhardt Jr. was the defending race winner, but never contended Saturday night and finished 21st. He was involved in the 22-car accident -- his third consecutive crash in a plate race -- but was able to continue to the finish this time.Miserable night, Earnhardt tweeted. Had some gremlins in the steering.OTHER NOTABLES FROM DAYTONA:---BUSCHS BAD FINISH: Kurt Busch was briefly charging toward Keselowski on the final shootout, couldnt pull off a pass, then found himself turned into the grass when Logano hit him. It took him from a possible top-five finish to 23rd, and he called Loganos move an aggressive mistake.I dont know where Logano wanted to go. He was going to go from fifth to first? Busch said. Theres not a chance that he had enough to win it. We positioned ourselves to be the car to get a run off the bottom. And it just didnt work out with him trying to drive straight through us.Buschs crew chief had much stronger words for Logano.Stupid is as stupid does!!! tweeted Tony Gibson.---STEWARTS GAIN: With 11 laps remaining and Stewart running fifth, his chance at a second consecutive victory blew up when he got loose and started a crash. Casey Mears ran into the back of him and Stewarts car turned into traffic then back into the wall.I got loose into one there, I just overcorrected there and drove it in the fence. My fault, Stewart said.Stewart wound up 26th -- but it was enough to get him to 30th in the standings. Hes got to be inside the top-30 to qualify for the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. We knew we might be able to get points here, for us, it was more trying to take care of ourselves, he said. I probably should have been smart and just sat back a little bit. But we were in position to get a top-five and had to take a chance.---UP NEXT: A Saturday night race at Kentucky Speedway, which was won last year by Kyle Busch as he charged into contention for the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. TORONTO -- A couple of clutch plays turned an empty night on the road into a big two points for the San Jose Sharks. Cheap Wizards Jerseys For Sale .Logan Couture scored the only goal in a shootout, and the Sharks rallied for a 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.San Jose trailed 2-0 before Justin Braun and Joe Pavelski scored in a quick burst in the third period. Martin Jones made 29 saves in the opener of a four-game road trip.We were upset because we didnt play very well in the first two, Couture said. I still dont think we were at our best in the third either but its just finding a way.Zach Hyman and Auston Matthews scored for Toronto, which has dropped five of six. Frederik Andersen made 40 stops.Jones denied Mitchell Marner, Matthews and Nikita Soshnikov in the tiebreaker, and Couture was successful in the second round.Weve got to figure out a way to close out these games, figure out a way to put ourselves in a good position like weve been able to do and be able to win, Matthews said.Coming off their fourth loss in five games, the Leafs got on the board first, with Hyman at the center of the early action. With Matt Martin in the penalty box for boarding, Hyman got in front of a Brent Burns drive from the right point. The shot drilled the 24-year-old in the left knee, and he had to be helped off by teammates Matt Hunwick and Morgan Rielly. But Hyman quickly returned to the ice and picked up his fifth of the season, getting his stick on Matthews quick shot from the left faceoff circle at 6:58 of the first.Toronto appeared to have a 2-0 lead early in the second, but Reillys goal was waved off because Nazem Kadri was whistled for goaltender interference.Kadri and Toronto coach Mike Babcock protested the decision, and Babcock used his coachs challenge. But the call stood.Kadri said he was shocked that they called it off.But Matthews eventually got the goal back with Toronto enjoying a 5-on-3 power play. Matthews shot from just above the goal line went under Jones left pad for his team-best 13th of the season at 7:46.It was the fifth multi-point outing of the year for Matthews, who trails only the Jets Patrik Laine among rookies with 22 points.San Jose outshot Toronto 12-7 in the middle frame, wearing the Leafs down with a few sustained stints in the offensive zone. The Sharks grabbed an early third-period power play and nearly scored when Pavelski found himself open just in front of Andersen. Rookie Connor Brown managed to get a stick on the attempt, sending it over the net and into the crowd.Braun got San Jose on the board at 12:43, whipping a backhand from the slot over the glove of Andersen for his first goal of the season.Big goal by Brauny and then our power play needed to get one, Couture said. We had too many chances not to.Pavelski added a tying power-play goal just over two minutes later, guiding a Burns point pass past Andersen. It was his ninth of the season.I think third period we were waiting for them a little bit too much, maybe let them take over, Andersen said. That cost us.The Leafs had numerous chances to score in overtime, with Jones stopping solid chances for Kadri and Marner.Game notes Toronto fell to 10-1-5 when leading after two periods.UP NEXTSharks: Visit Ottawa on Wednesday night.Maple Leafs: Hosts Arizona on Thursday night. The last two times we played these guys we were a little different schematically than we are now.Well be able to take a look at them this week, study them hard and work to try and find solutions that will fit us.Detroit will also need to bring the pressure against Bradford, who has been sacked 11 times the past two weeks. Its something that I would like to see go down, Bradford said of the number of times he has been hit. I dont think its a positive thing. I dont think its a good thing. I think weve got to figure out a way to bring that number down. The Lions made one change, as well, trying to help their 23rd-ranked defense by acquiring cornerback Johnthan Banks from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Banks was a college teammate of Detroit cornerback Darius Slay at Mississippi State and the two were second-round draft picks in 2013.Banks will try to resurrect his career in a new spot.Meanwhile, Minnesota is trying to prove its season isnt slipping away.I do think that we hit a rough spot in the season and we need to get back on track, Zimmer said. So, unfortunately this is just some of the things that go on over the course of a season. Obviously, the season is a long time and not everything is going to go smooth, as Ive found out over the three years. So, well just keep trying to do the things we have to do to continue to get better. TORONTO -- Ralph Krueger, the head coach of plucky, piecemeal Team Europe, shines like a light. Larry Johnson Jersey . His coaching tenure with the Edmonton Oilers ended early and badly; now hes the chairman of Southampton, the Premier League football club. Not many men can switch sports at the highest levels. Krueger managed it because when he enters a room, his heart is as open as the door he walked through. On Thursday at the World Cup of Hockey, he was asked about how much the human heart tells in our games, hockey most of all.I dont think theres a game more honest than ice hockey, he said. Theres no hiding here. ... If youre not connected, it doesnt matter how much skill you have, youre going to be dealing with luck and chance. Hockey will punish you if youre dependent on that. Its such a great game because of that. Such an honest game.Heart is an amorphous concept, easy to lie about. Its nice to think that desire can overcome any weakness, because most of us have weaknesses and the alternative is believing that youll never be good enough. And underdogs win sometimes, which means heart must win sometimes, too.Heart is also an impossible thing to metric, and there are times when having all the heart in the world doesnt help. In some ways, big hearts can seem the easiest to wound. Theyre bigger targets.Dean Lombardi, the general manager of Team USA and the Los Angeles Kings, has a huge heart. He is known for his almost blind devotion to his players. If he falls in love with you, he will love you forever. He is the sort of man who makes other men wish they saw the world as clearly as he does.Like Krueger, he, too, talked about passion and hockey on Thursday. Unlike Krueger and Team Europe, Lombardi and his team were going home soon after.Lombardi talked specifically about how he believes heart can close the talent gap between teams.I think that our game allows emotion, competitiveness, caring about each other, to close that gap more than any other sport, he said. And thats why I think its the greatest game. Theres no doubt in my mind that the formula has worked. Weve won two Stanley Cups. The first thing, yes, we had talent, no question about it. But the reason we won, we were a frickin team. When Lombardi was building Team USA, he began with the premise that no matter what roster he made, it would be less talented than Canadas. His coach, John Tortorella, agreed.Ill be honest: Were not as deep as Canada skill-wise, he said. Not sure USA Hockey will like me saying that, but its the truth. Its a situation where I still think, in our mind, we could not just skill our way through Canada. So Lombardi decided that his team needed to compensate with heart. He used his hands to show the talent gap between Team USA and Canada. He said he could have picked a different roster that would have narrowed that gap, and he drew his hands closer together. Instead, he purposefully picked a roster that widened that gap, he said. He pulled his hands farther apart.Their heart, he said, would more than make up the greater distance. In his mind, then, talent has a ceiling, but heart doesnt. Heart must be exponential. He lifted the hand that represented Team USA over the Canadian one.Give me 22 guys that care, Lombardi said. Thats where it starts. From there you can build competitiveness and culture and everything else. But if you dont have 22 guys that care, youre not going to get to square two. Then Team USA came here (with 23 guys) and lost 3-0 to Kruegers Team Europe, lightly regarded almost to the point of invisibility. The Americans didnt just lose that game. They were flat, uninspired, gutless. Never mind too-talented Canada, which also beat them. They couldnt beat a group cobbled together from eight different countries deemed too uncompetitive to dress their own teams. What did that that say about Team USAs heart?Krueger also used his hands to answer that question. In the end, what we did with the U.S. in the first game -- maybe it was like this, the skill levels, he said, and he held the hand representing his team well below his American hand. But the work ethic and the passion and the team spirit was able to bring us above them on that day.Now his other hand, like his team, was on top.Lombardi didnt much like the suggestion that his group had been outgutted by an afterthought team that is also this tournaments oldest.No. There were guys in tears in that room the other night, and they were real, he said of the moments after the loss to Canada that eliminated them. And some of the texts I got from players, Ill treasure for the rest of my life. Thats good stuff. Those are things you dont forget, even in failure. And so that part we got down.Even if heart cant be quantified, Lombardis math doesnt add up. He thought heart would help his players close the gap between them and the better team, which is advancing to Saturdays semifinal. Instead they were caught by a worse one, which will play in Sundays. The harshest possible assessment of Team USA is that it had no heart. The kindest one is that it was made to be broken.
